Exam Pattern
The UPSC ESE examination comprises two phases of exam as below
- Written test
- Personality test
The written test is comprised of three stages i.e. the preliminary, Mains, and personality tests. In the Preliminary exam, Paper I and Paper II tests will be conducted which carry the total mark of 500 marks (Note there is a negative marking for every wrong answer marked by candidates in the MCQ papers.

The Main examination, will comprise two Conventional question papers of the engineering branch which will carry a total mark of 600.
