The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is actively seeking a motivated SCADA Technician II to join its skilled System P&C (SCADA) team in Austin, Texas. This role offers an opportunity to work hands-on with critical infrastructure, supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of SCADA monitoring and control equipment across LCRA’s service territory.

Job Overview

  • Position: SCADA Technician II
  • Location: Austin, TX (On-Site, with 25% travel)
  • Type: Full-Time
  • Pay Range: $38.86 – $47.49 per hour
  • Schedule: Full-time with some overnight lodging, overtime, and weekend call-outs possible

Key Responsibilities

As part of LCRA’s SCADA group, you will:

  • Assist experienced technicians on projects with System Operations, Generation, Relay & Control Engineering, Telecommunications, and ERCOT.
  • Support complex installation, maintenance, commissioning, and integration tasks involving:
    • Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
    • Data Concentrators
    • Revenue Meters
    • Protective Relays
    • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
    • GPS Satellite Clocks, Digital Fault Recorders, and related equipment
  • Help integrate and test RTUs, relays, and meters into the Transmission Services SubWAN for remote access and monitoring.
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with ERCOT protocols.
  • Travel to substations, power plants, and water systems to perform assigned duties.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction/maintenance of power substation protection, SCADA, metering, or control systems.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A degree in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, or computer science may substitute for certain years of experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of substation equipment, metering, protective relays, RTUs, and LAN operations.
  • Understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and protocols like Modbus, SEL, DNP 3.0.
  • Basic proficiency with office applications and communication tools like Telnet/HyperTerminal.
